Korean Art in SFMOMA
by way of New York Times
K-pop star RM of BTS is a collector of Korean arts. New York Times reports his collection will be exhibited in SFMOMA. I am looking forward to this exhibition starting October.
A few things I have learned. Though a pop star, RM appreciates fine arts. At the age of 31, he already has a major collection. This caught the attention of an art museum in the United States. Another curious point, I learned about a local event from the New York Times, a newspaper on the other side of the continent.
As it turns out, the New York Times has pretty good coverage about San Francisco. I was a long time subscriber of the local paper San Francisco Chronicles. In recent years, I have grown weary of their tone. Too political correct. Too panicky about small risks. I once said cynically that I rather read San Francisco news from the New York Times. This was just what I did. I cancelled my Chron subscription and never looked back.
Why does the New York Times have so many articles about San Francisco? It is a city of just 800 thousand people. But it may have as many articles as New Jersey’s.
This may be a sign that San Francisco is special. It generates stories. Anything from tech, development of AI, to troubling social problems like homelessness, or San Francisco’s peculiar brand of politics. It is a trailblazer who creates many stories. They are of interest only locally, but also to the people of New York and beyond.
